About the role The role of Principal Design Manager will be based in our Brisbane office. This position is crucial for providing technical expertise and leading technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solutions for key water and wastewater projects.
Responsibilities
Plan, program, and coordinate studies, investigations, designs, and construction management projects as Design Manager, Team Leader or Project Technical Lead, delivering agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.
Bring technical acumen to the development of solutions that meet client needs and drive value.
Develop strong working relationships with clients by delivering valuable business solutions and understanding their business.
Coordinate all multi‑disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution.
Deliver outputs on time and to appropriate quality.
Bring a can‑do, solution‑focused attitude to projects.
Lead engineering projects and manage internal engineering disciplines as well as subcontractors.
Support delivery teams during design and construction, acting in a senior leadership and management role on projects.
Undertake internal technical reviews and verification checks on all aspects of water and wastewater projects.
Focus on the development of our water and wastewater project delivery expertise locally and across the ANZ business.
Identify opportunities and develop high‑level relationships with key utility clients and future water‑focused clients in line with Stantec business strategies.
Assist in the pursuit and proposal phase of key business development opportunities.
Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities, including preparing proposals and ensuring they are prepared to a high standard.
Facilitate design coordination and review meetings with clients and stakeholders, including knowledge of engineering assurance processes and a systems approach to design reviews.
Prepare contract technical specifications, scopes of work and technical schedules.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in an relevant engineering field along with CPEng and RPEQ (or ability to obtain).
Over 10 years of civil or process‑mechanical water infrastructure engineering experience – design and construction.
Exceptional leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
Advanced knowledge of water and wastewater services and the delivery environment.
Highly developed problem‑solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes that arise.
Strong understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects.
Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story.
